Grounding

Grounding is a spiritual term that refers to centring your soul into your body; and in turn, connecting with Mother Earth.

If you aren’t spiritual, then simply it is about centring yourself; to help you focus and ground yourself back into your physical body.

When you feel:

you are simply not centred within your body; you are disconnected within yourself. In these current times, it is easy to watch the news, or look at social media, and pick up on the fear and the uncertainty that is being fed to us on a daily basis. This fear and uncertainty in turn puts us out of balance and alignment…and we may feel anxious, frustrated, fearful and a number of other negative emotions. Left unattended, these emotions will just fester and grow and become bigger and bigger within you. Not only is this not good for you emotionally, it is also not good for you physically. You may get headaches, stomach aches, general aches and pains…or you may simply feel lethargic, tired, unmotivated or disinterested. However, it manifests in you, the sooner you get onto it and disperse it from your energy field and hence your physical body, the better you will feel energetically and physically.

Grounding is also great for those that daydream a lot; or for those that fall asleep when meditating. In general, it is good habit and good practice to ground yourself every day, even several times a day, to ensure that you stay fully present and balanced throughout the day. At first, this may seem like a time-consuming exercise to do, but the more you do it, the quicker and more efficient you will become at grounding yourself.

The Benefits of Grounding

Besides keeping you centred and present, grounding is also important as it:

Amongst many others, these are just some of the benefits of grounding.

Grounding Techniques

Bare Feet

There are a number of techniques that you can use to ground yourself and the simplest one is to go outside and stand on the grass with your bare feet. This is all you need to do to ground yourself, however, to make it more effective you can put some intention into the process by asking Mother Earth to take all your negative emotions and energies from you and in turn, to replace them with love, light and positivity (and anything else that you would like). Be sure to thank Mother Earth once you are done.

Star Chakras

Another method is to imagine grounding cords from your Earth star chakras (the bottom of each of your feet) connecting you to the Earth’s core. Picture these grounding cords travelling from your feet through the layers of Earth and attaching themselves to the Earth’s core. If you cannot visualise this, then just intent for this to occur and be confident in the knowledge that this is occurring. This can be done quickly each day, several times a day.

Crystals

If you feel connected to crystals, you can also use grounding crystals. Wear them as jewellery or carry them in your pockets. Some good grounding crystals include carnelian, hematite, obsidian, smoky quartz, fire agate, bloodstone, boji stones, red calcite, garnet, red jasper, black sapphire, shungite and black tourmaline.

Grounding Meditation

Another great method is to do a grounding meditation. This will require extra time and solitude and though it seems like it will take some time, it can be lengthened or shortened as required. As you become familiar with this meditation, you will be able to do it quicker. This meditation not only grounds, you, it also clears and balances your chakras.

I have written a Grounding Meditation as a separate blog that can be accessed via this link.
