A healing crisis, otherwise known as detox, is a process that can occur during or after an energy healing session. The term in itself sounds daunting…but it is a natural part of the healing process.
2020 has certainly brought with it its challenges. On the flip side, however, it has also been a year where many people have “woken up”. They are feeling the call of their soul to “do the work”; to release their karmic baggage and heal. The concept of healing sounds wonderful… and as someone who has gone through the process (and is still going through the process) it is wonderful. However, healing is not a linear process; it can feel like 2 steps forward and 3 steps back. You may not feel wonderful straight away after a healing session, as you wait for the old energy to disperse and the new energy to settle. And…that is OK. It is normal.
The aim of this blog is to give an understanding of how you can expect to feel after a healing session…and how you can manage yourself through that time. It goes into the concept of a healing crisis; what it is and how to know you are experiencing one. The aim is also to assure you that what you are experiencing is a natural part of the healing process.
Energy Healing
Energy healing is the release of the old energy to allow in the new energy. This encompasses negative beliefs, behaviours, thoughts, cords, entities, etc that are preventing you from becoming your true essence or authentic self.
This old energy is replaced with new energy associated with more positive and beneficial beliefs…leading to positive balance shifts in the way you feel, think and act. It is this new energy that allows you to heal on a physical, emotional and spiritual level; to understand; to accept and to move forward on your life path with confidence and ease.
The energy healing modalities that I personally use on myself and on clients include Soul Healing / Clearing sessions, Reiki, hypnotherapy and EFT.
Many people look forward to their first energy session with a sense of excitement and anticipation. I believe that this is because on a deep, soul level, they know that they are about to embark on a very special and personal journey for themselves…to take back their sovereignty.
However, a common misconception about energy work is that you will feel great after it. But, this is not necessarily the case…straight away, anyway. In fact, in many instances, you may actually feel worse before you feel better.
Why is this?
Because, energy work is the process of gradually releasing the layers of energetic karmic baggage that have accumulated in your energy fields. And…not just from this lifetime, but from many, many lifetimes. It is like peeling an onion, as we release layer after layer.
This release of energy is occurring on a physical, emotional and spiritual level, and needs to make its way through your energy systems before it is fully released. It is akin to a detox.
In some instances, this old energy can be processed and dispersed from your energy field during the session itself without you noticing. In most instances, however, this energy may take some time to work its way through your energy system before it is fully released; and the process can take anywhere from a few hours to weeks before the energy has been fully released from your energy system. This release of energy, or detox, is what we refer to as a healing crisis.
For some, this healing crisis or detox is quite mild and you may only experience little or no symptoms. For others this process brings out somewhat stronger yet still relatively mild symptoms. While for others, the healing crisis can be quite intense on a physical and/or emotional level and last for days.
While it may be unpleasant going through this, it is a natural part of the healing process and a good sign that you are indeed releasing this old energy from within you. More importantly, however, it is a good sign that you are healing on a deep level. It is an adjustment period as the old energy disperses and the new energy integrates within you. Essentially, you may feel worse before you feel better. But just know…that it too shall pass.
How Do You Know You Are Going Through a Healing Crisis
There are a number symptoms that are associated with a healing crisis, and they are not unlike what you experience during a detox. These symptoms sit on both a physical and/or emotional level.
You will not experience all of them at any one time, and the intensity that you experience them will vary from session to session. There is no right or wrong here…there just is. Accepting and understanding that you are going through a healing process can take the stress out of what you are experiencing, so that you can allow the process to flow.
Some of the symptoms of a healing crisis / energy detox are:
Physical
- Feeling lethargic or unusually tired
- Flu-like symptoms / common cold
- Fever
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Coughing
- Aching joints and muscles
- Tingling sensations
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Nausea / Vomiting
- Fatigue
- Inflammation
Emotional / Mental
- Crying
- Picking fights with loved ones
- Letting go of thoughts and feelings that held you back
- Feeling the need to set a broken relationship straight
- Feeling heavy
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Large emotional purge
- Sadness
- Anger
- Doubt
- Frustration
- Blame
- Victimizing
- Vivid dreams
These symptoms can be experienced during an energy session; or they can be experienced hours, days or even weeks after an energy session.
It should be emphasised again that this is a sign of true and deep healing. It should also be noted that this is NOT a sign that the energy healing modality hasn’t worked or that the practitioner has done something wrong. It is a normal after-effect of a healing session and may just mean that you need to take some extra time to release the old energy and integrate the new energy before having another session. If symptoms persist, or you are worried, by all means check in with your practitioner.
How to Manage the Healing Crisis
It is important to take extra care of yourself during a healing crisis…and to honour what you are going through and what you need. If you need to rest, rest! Drink lots of water. Get out into nature. Give yourself permission to do what you need to do to manage the symptoms and rejuvenate during this time.
Other helpful things that you can do during this time include:
- Grounding and protecting exercises. Staying grounded to Mother Earth and calling in her beautiful energy
- Using the Faster EFT method to dissipate and dissolve negative and lingering energies
- Meditating
- Taking a salt bath with Epsom salts
- Allowing yourself to relax and chill, where you can. Resting and chilling is an essential element for healing and rejuvenation.
- Getting extra sleep. Go to bed earlier…sleep in a little later
- Journaling to shift the emotions from within you to outside of you
- Drinking more water
- Eating healthier
- Breathing using the 7-11 method.
- Being gentle and kind with yourself. Acknowledge that you are going through a healing crisis / detoxing and allowing yourself to give yourself what you need during this time
- Knowing and accepting that this is all part of the process
- Anything else positive that you are feeling the urge to do
